Two Musicians. One City. Two vastly different experiences. One never-changing God. BETWEEN MERCY AND ME is a musical journey into the hearts of unexpected friends Hugo and Mercy, who struggle to find a connection and hope for their hurting community … and themselves.
As his community begins to shudder under the impact of gentrification and tragedy, Hugo sinks into the emotional circumstances of the world around him. His pastor challenges him to produce new music, something a bit more inspirational, in hopes of uplifting the congregation. Facing writer’s block in his sanctuary, he opts to visit the new and improved neighborhood coffee shop where he encounters Mercy. A jubilant and extraverted fellow musician, Mercy offers to join Hugo in his song writing efforts. As their relationship grows, they are surprised by the reactions from their communities, friends and their own families. Hugo and Mercy, determined to not let hard conversations or tension keep them from being together, set out to create space for honest conversations and work towards unification in their community, challenging biases seen and unseen, often unspoken. One evening, their relationship is rocked by a routine traffic stop causing them to come face to face their own internal narratives and beliefs. Will they choose to wear vulnerability with one another or move apart with hard hearts affirming the very biases that they worked so hard to obliterate?
Meet the Cast
David DriskIll
David J Driskill is a singer-songwriter, producer, director, actor and founder/CEO of DRSKL Productions LLC. Between Mercy and Me is his first feature-length project and lead role. He resides in Cincinnati with his wife Hannah Driskill where they love to travel, eat and spend time with loved ones and family.
Andrea Summer
Andrea Summer is a Cincinnati-based singer-songwriter, music producer and actress. She co-wrote and starred in the film Between Mercy And Me and wrote and co-produced the original, award-winning soundtrack and score. She is a passionate creative collaborator and mother of three.
Dr. Michael Brown
Dr. Michael Brown became a believer in Jesus 1971 as a 16-year-old, heroin-shooting, LSD-using Jewish rock drummer. Since then, he has preached throughout the world, bringing a message of spiritual renewal and cultural reformation. He holds a Ph.D. in Near Eastern Languages and Literatures from New York University and is the author of more than 40 books.
Craig Lamar Brown
Craig Lamar Brown is a multi-talented film producer, writer and director. He is the founder of Brown Brown Films, a production company dedicated to creating inspirational and artistically captivating stories. Between Mercy and Me is his directorial debut. Craig currently resides in Cincinnati with his wife Caitlin and their five daughters.
